How Mirka Got Her Sword -Yet another troll-fighting 11-year-old Orthodox Jewish girl comic at Hereville

The U.S. has broken the second rule of war. That is, don't go fighting with your land army on the mainland of Asia. Rule One is don't march on Moscow. I developed these two rules myself.

Googleplex

Jan. 13th, 2009 09:36 am
Two snippets of conversation:

"It's snowing! A hundred snowflakes are falling! More than a hundred hundred hundred - a googleplex!"

"Mom, do you know why  I know googleplex is a number? Luka told me."
The last part was said in a very solemn, assured tone, because if Luka said it then it MUST be true. Obviously.
  • 10:50 Beautiful winter day. Sunny, cold, freshly fallen snow (well, freshly yesterday at least), not much wind. Want to dust off my ice skates... #

Karin lost her first (baby) tooth last week. There was an ensuing visit from the tooth fairy, but "I think that the grownups are playing tooth fairy". Of course, it didn't help that John showed her the container with his baby teeth...

And even after so many years here, I'm still surprised by the weather sometimes. In 2-3 weeks it ranged from -10 to +16 °C (12-60 F) and from heavy snow to sleet to rain to bright and sunny. Weird.

  • 14:05 Totally surprised that when a finicky printer claims it's out of paper, it was truly out of paper. Changing a 36" wide roll is cool :) #

Special Weather Statement for Suffolk County, MA

Issued by The National Weather Service. Boston, MA
5:56 pm EST, Sun., Dec. 21, 2008

... FLASH FREEZE EXPECTED TONIGHT...

EXTREMELY COLD AIR WILL MOVE INTO SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND VERY QUICKLY THIS EVENING. RAPID FREEZING OF ANY LIQUID OR SLUSH IS EXPECTED. THIS WILL RESULT IN BLACK ICE... OR EVEN VISIBLE ICE... ON UNTREATED ROADS AND SIDEWALKS. USE EXTREME CAUTION IF TRAVELING TONIGHT AS CONDITIONS CAN BECOME TREACHEROUS QUICKLY.

Oh no! Not the dreaded black ice! Or worse - visible ice!
Can we make it even more dramatic?

Milestones

Dec. 16th, 2008 10:45 pm
Not only did we get a nice big christmas tree up in our livingroom, it is also in a very good spot. The spot that was previously covered by That Tub. And that tub? It is finally, finally upstairs in the bathroom it'll get installed in. Eventually. It wasn't as brief or easy as that sounds like. More about the process in a next blog, to cover the casualties and damages - 1 knee, 1 staircase rug, one nose, 3 bloodied fingers... but not the tub!
