SomeServer::runServer - Arming auto destruct.
SomeServer::runServer - Ending communication.
SomeServer::runServer - Checking isAlive before Arming auto destruct.
SomeServer::runServer - Shutting down .
SomeServer::runServer - Releasing server socket.
SomeServer::runServer - Disarming auto destruct.

While reading a log file this morning, trying to figure out what was broken, one of the "destruct" lines caught my eye. Of course, I had to find the rest, to see what got destroyed :)
  • 08:17 Hard to believe it's mid-november and still 8C (45F) outside. The garden decided nights are too cold, so most got cut down. Very bare now. #

Somewhere, somewhen, someone I know (damn my non-functional memory!) did something I recall she called the "gratitude project".

A few weeks ago, I started scribbling my "gratitudes" for each day in my notebook/agenda/schedule, and had planned to modernize it (gasp!) by, like, posting it here. Like many things I try to remember to blog about, it went up in smoke as soon as I w-- ooooh look, shiny!
Today, one of my friends had a question about it, and once I typed up an answer, there was no more excuse of not enough time, since I was already here and all, so voilà ... this post.

Googling "gratitude project" did not give me the thing I thought I knew it was, but below are 2 links that pretty much describe the concept. Which is to write down x things you are grateful for each day, and y things you did well. I don't remember x or y, so just changed it for myself into "x+y=5". Yes, I'm a geek.

Or, in a lot less (fewer?) words: list 5 things that you are grateful for or did well that day.

05:50 - It is still dark out, and is just too damn early to get up.
06:30 - Attempt to make eggs thwarted by not-cleaned, rusting pan.
06:33 - New attempt to heat eggs in different, clean pan.
06:45 - Attempt to hang said first pan, now de-rusted, cleaned, and re-oiled, back on pot rack resulted in the up-until-now-unknown wood expansion of said pot rack reaching a critical point resulting in 2 of its hooks falling out resulting in one pan bouncing on pan-with-eggs-heating, then on kettle with boiling water, then on plate with cat food on ground, then resting wrong side down on said ground. End result: a very loud ka-bang!, a dirty pan, a broken kettle, a broken plate, a mess, and flabbergasted people. At least that first pan was still clean, and the eggs unharmed :)
06:49* - Burned tip of finger (R, index) because I brainlessly tried to push one of the burners back in place. Didn't have flame under it, so must be ok, right? Not.
07:09 - Putting Karin on the school bus, reminding her to look for and bring home her missing rain jacket, sweater, and shoes.
08:10 - Covered scooter with its rain jacket, since chance of rain definitely >30% today.
08:12 - Realized that it doesn't matter if ipod is charged, since I lent out my earphones.
08:20 - Waiting for the T.
08:30 - Train finally visible. Does not stop b/c too full.
08:40 - Still waiting for train.
08:45 - In train. Doing credible imitation of sardine in can.
09:15 - Out of train. Late, but surprisingly uneventful.

And that's only before I got to work...

Amusing tidbits, from some talks:
  • [looking for info/cures...] for the diseases most likely to kill you.
  • We are not alone when we are alone.
    In fact, we're vastly outnumbered.
  • Human genes are outnumbered 1:100 by all the things living in and on us.
