briefish update

miekecTime flies, etc.
Last day here with my parents in NL. Suitcase and bag almost packed. Note: that is one bag more than we came with, largely due to yummy speculaas and kaas and chocoladeletters and Dutch books, of course.
Today we went to the zoo in Rotterdam, Blijdorp. We'd kept it a surprise for Karin; all she knew was that we were going to a "surprise" somewhere with the 4 of us. Once we were underway, we had her guess by telling her some of the creatures we might find there. Didn't take her too long.
Once there, the excitement made way for obstinacy and obnoxiousness really fast. Maybe all the excitement or suspense; maybe knowing that this was the last day here. Who knows. But it made it hard to interact. Eventually she loosened up a bit, and we did see a lot. At the end, we took her to the climbing structure (near our exit), which she seemed to find at least as interesting as all the animals. Sigh. So much for trying 'culture'. (a few pics here)
Tomorrow we leave around 3pm local time, fly for 8+ hours, only to arrive around 5pm local time again. Keeping fingers crossed.
