+ Karin learned to tie her shoes this weekend. She told J on Sunday morning that she wanted to learn. He showed her 3 times (literally), and from that time on, she's bee tying hr shoes herself. I guess motivation really works for her!

+ pain in my thumb is not carpal tunnel
- but tendinitis
+ and feels a lot better today than yesterday

+ "Weasley broke his paw"
"What happened?"
"His bone fell out"

+ yummy dinner with good friends earlier this week *and* today

- exhaustedly tired

- dreary weather all week
+ but dry all weekend. Just in time to deal with the rotted clapboards

+ had yummy fresh Maine lobster (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] nekowoman)

+ even though we barely got started on the clapboards, did get to cross 2 things off the list: fixed tree-holding-rope and put catflap back into kitchen door. (SO satisfying to cross things off!)

- Karin tried to bite her teachers. Multiple times this week.
+ they're faster than she is
+ and she ended with a really good Friday

+ she learned to whistle. With her mouth.
- No object to take away from her in that case, to stop the noise

+ The stack of 20 year old medical notebooks has shrunk by more than a foot
- there is still more than a foot left. And many boxes full of "stuff" too.

+ Finally had time to sit down and work on backlogged finances
- not anywhere near long enough to catch up

- it cost almost $40 to send a box with a pair of boots to [livejournal.com profile] tieleke (in The Netherlands)
+ they got there in only a few days!
+ and paypal works internationally

+ Of course, the other unusual bike at K's new school was ridden by a Dutch woman.
+ One who also lives in the neighborhood.
+And plans to import those beauties!

+ "Jij bent een gemene moeder!"
"Oh? Waarom?"
"Omdat jij zegt 'niet piepen'"
(nadat ze zeurde omdat ze de afwasmachine moest legen, zoals gewoonlijk)

["You're a cruel mother!"]
["Oh? Why?"]
["Because you say 'don't squawk'"]
[(after she whined about having to empty the dishwasher, as usual)]

+ New word of the week: "CamelCase"

Hai Mieke,

As you know, we ride an unusual bike as well (a Christiania cargo bike), to transport our DOG and lots of groceries. In Holland there are lots of unusual bikes. We even have a special bike repairman who also sells these bikes, Chris (www.beertransportfietsen.nl). A very nice fellow, but hey, he has the best job in the world so who wouldn't be nice then! The latest in these bikes is Feetz (in Dutch fiets means bike), a really amazing Dutch designed bike which is also a shopping cart because you can fold it. You can check it out on www.feetz.nl. Maybe you can import the Feetz to the US?

Greetings,
Marieke
