I must say that getting this tattoo wasn't quite what I had expected. Not so much better or worse, but just different. The place where I got it done (here) was a lot nicer than I had anticipated (or feared?). Very clean, everything sterile and one-time use where needed. I was really intrigued by the process, and since I wanted the tattoo in a place where I could see it, I was also able to see her work. As for how much it hurt (almost the first question everyone asks), not that badly. Yes, it does hurt at first. A medium amount; some teeth gritting and breathing regulation got me through that relatively quickly. And I got used to it. After that, it only hurts a bit. and as soon as she was done, it wasn't painful anymore. I had been warned it might feel irritated, or like a scrape. But nothing. No complaints about that!
Seeing the image appear on my skin bit by bit wat really fascinating. At some point it dawned on me that this was really an art, like drawing/painting, but on a different kind of canvas. All in all, it took her only 45 minutes of actual "poking". Bit of an anti-climax once she was done. An almost empty feeling, something that I had always (sort of secretly) wanted now accomplished. And for the world to see - no more secretly. Strange.
Now, it's itchy. And peeling some. When I explained to Karin that it was a flower, she stuck her nose up against it and sniffed :) Hehe. Well, it *is* what we've taught her to do with flowers, right?
