Harry Potter 5
Aug. 22nd, 2004 11:40 amOn the Friday that Harry Potter book 5 came out (June 21, 2003), John took Alexander to the local bookstore. A had forgotten that it was that day (school vac had just started that Wednesday, so he was still excited about that) so, J just woke him up at 23:30, and told him to get dressed. A started to, and then noticed it was dark, and the following conversation ensued:
A (groggily): "But daaaad, it's the middle of the night!"
J: "no complaining, just get dressed"
So, A started putting on shorts.
J: "Nono, long pants, it's too cold for shorts now"
A: "But where are we going?"
J:"You'll find out..."
A got dressed, and then J threw him his renfaire cape to wear
A: "But dad, it's too early in the year for King Richard's Faire!" [he's getting too smart!]
J: "Just put it on. And here, here's a familiar" (throws dinosaur with the parrot wings Elliot had made for it)
So, they both went out, capes and familiars and all, and turned the corner of our street.. to see 250+ people milling around, lots dressed up, and jugglers, facepainters, music, etc.
A: "Hey, why is there a line for the restaurant?"
J: "That's not the restaurant"
(insert image of mental wheels turning>)
A: "Hey. HEY! What day is it?"
J (trying to look innocent): "Friday"
A: "nonono... the number, what number of the day?"
J: "the 20th, why do you ask?"
A: "Tomorrow is the day Harry Potter 5 comes out! And THAT is the bookstore!"
So, they got in line (for an hour!) and got the book. Came home, A read 3 pages, and they went to bed.
Needless to say that the book got snarfed by all, in no time.
