Almost recursive
Jul. 31st, 2008 03:21 pmSomeone asked what's up with the side of our house. Welllll...
The side of our house where the kitchen looks out on the side-yard is now covered with just tarpaper, no clapboards.
That side needs a contractor to come fix, as it involves jacking up the house/side (!) to replace the sill.
This doesn't even include the fact that J wants to replace the backyard fence before having contractors, for to me nonsequitor reasons:
Oh, and in order to even have the space to work on anything, we need to work our way through many boxes of papers and clothes and otherhoarded saved possessions.
It Always Takes Longer.
Yes, things _are_ moving forward, just very slowly. Drives me absolutely nuts! I want to start nownownow and get the tub out of the livingroom. Oh, and some real insulation for when winter comes (all too soon)
The side of our house where the kitchen looks out on the side-yard is now covered with just tarpaper, no clapboards.
-> Because when we were redoing the siding we discovered carpenter ants.
--> Who ate part of the sheathing and most of the sill.
That side needs a contractor to come fix, as it involves jacking up the house/side (!) to replace the sill.
-> They will need to remove most of the kitchen wall on the other side, to see how far/deep the damage goes.
--> So we might as well do the kitchen remodel at the same time - cheaper in the long run.
---> During remodel, the water will have to get cut off to the bathroom above the kitchen.
----> Thus requiring a functional _new_ bathroom. Like, the one we've been trying to finish for the past 6 years
-----> Which , until recently, had too much stuff in it to physically work on it (aside from all the other reasons).
This doesn't even include the fact that J wants to replace the backyard fence before having contractors, for to me nonsequitor reasons:
-> Replacing that fence requires digging a retaining wall first, to stop the fence/yard from sliding down as it is now.
--> That digging, apparently needs to be done quietly, with the old crumbling fence still up, because the neighbors in back might object.
Oh, and in order to even have the space to work on anything, we need to work our way through many boxes of papers and clothes and other
-> Which involves reserving J's time,
--> his most sparse commodity,
---> and ability to let go of things.
----> Hah.
It Always Takes Longer.
