My Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV)
Feb. 27th, 2008 03:09 pmI wrote this up as a comment on one of
chocorua's posts, and then realized that it should probably have its own entry. Today is a good day for it, since it was finally dry and de-snowed enough to ride my bike to work again.
So far, my axles have survived nearly 10 years of commuting in Boston. The rest of the bike is a different story, and has had many fixes and replacements. Whenever I take it to a bike shop, the new guy/gal/dude usually does a double-take. First, the obligatory "doorbell-rings-new-customer-with-bike", and then the "ohmygod-what-the-hell-is-on-that-thing" look. A solid mountainbike, once pink, but now a sorta-pink-and-beat-up color, back black metal folding baskets attached to sturdy rack, with front and rear pannier mounts (usually with at least 1 front pannier in place), front and rear fenders, front and rear generator-powered lights, big-ass (pun intended) seat, seat-leash, mounted big u-lock, seatpost-pouch with spare innertube, kickstand (well, currently broken), rear-fork-mounted trailer-hitch, small pump and waterbottle attached to frame, handlebars with little bike computer, bell, battery-operated extra light, bright purple handlebar ends.
