miekecAnd indeed, it did hail. And rain some more. And was quite breezy, to say the least. But still, in between, a nice day. Actually woke up all by myself, at a reasonable time even. Karin too; maybe she's gotten adjusted to the time shift. She's still very happy, and when we started going down the stairs, perked up and asked querulously, "Oma?". Yes, Oma was downstairs, and made her quite happy with a cup of milk and a (standard Dutch) breakfast of bread and cheese.
We went on a "short" shopping excursion - mom had forgotten how much longer it takes with a toddler in tow. You have to stop to chase the pigeons, escape and be hauled back, try the automatic doors a few times, escape and be hauled back, have a false alarm about a poopy diaper, escape and be hauled back, a few melt-downs, escape and be hauled back, etc. But it was fun anyway.
Spent the afternoon and evening with my brother Paul, whom I hadn't seen since last year! Yes, we speak on the phone regularly, but it's not the same. He just moved in with his girlfriend, after about a year of both of them moving back and forth between his apartment and her house. They had her house fixed up, and now have a gorgeous (albeit tiny... but who am I to say :) ) bathroom, and a beautiful fixed up living room and kitchen.
Meandered through The Hague, soaking up the atmosphere and the proper old houses; had some REAL coffee in a coffeehouse and painfully noticed that smoking is still allowed there; ate yummy yummy indonesian food (one of the few things that is hard to find in Boston) and had a great time.
Meanwhile, Karin had a blast at the "kinderboerderij" - a sort of petting zoo, with cows, pigs, mice, etc., and chickens running loose all over. She ran around till she all but fell asleep. It's so heartwarming to see her enjoy herself; her emotions are so pure, so visible in her face, in her whole body; she often squeals in delight - I wish I could bottle it!
