Trave <achoo!> log
Nov. 13th, 2007 04:45 pmDays 6-7-8 have been a mixture of busy and quiet. Sunday was busy with 2 meetups with friends.
One at the indoor ball-pit/playground thing, and one at one of my other friends' new place, to have dinner.
The first part was only partially successful. Friend's son didn't "do" play with other kids. Or play actively at all, much, and he mostly tried to sit on his moms lap or on a block of foam that was technically in the playspace, but as close to her as he could manage. Sigh. I do admit that it's hard to find a play-thing for him if he doesn't really like running around much. But still. We did get to talk some, and it was good to hang out. What add to the complications was that Karin had caught some cold. She had woken up coughing like a seal - sounded like croup, which made me groan internally. Didn't seem to affect her much, until she'd been running around the playspace for a bit. She was grouchy, actually didn't want to play anymore (!! highly unusual when any type of climbing structure is present) and started to look glazed. The febrile forehead didn't help either. Sigh. Some paracetamol/tylenol helped, and we all managed to hang out/play/talk some more, and even get out without anyone or anything exploding. Go us!
During the drive to my other friends, Karin slept in the back seat. I guess she really was tired... We had a fun evening, but 2 rowdy boys and a riled-up squeaky girl and 3 cats and a new puppy, um, well, yeah. Crazy. Many bad influences on each other and such. At least we managed to have yummy dinner and watched (most of) Shrek the Derde. Yes, dubbed in Dutch!
Anyway, dinner, good friends and good company. And never enough time.
After a crazy busy day like that, having a day off (Monday) wasn't a bad coincidence. We were supposed to meet up with another friend-cum-kids (similar age to Karin), but one of them had gotten sick, so that fell through. Karin's fever was gone, but by now both of us had fully caught the cold, with sneezing, coughing and green, icky, lung-rattling goo. Just what we needed.
Spent a lazy-ish day mostly inside, since the weather still is meh. Cold, wet, rainy, windy. Average Dutch fall. We did do some fun shopping in the afternoon, and got spoiled by my mom with some nice sweater/vests/shirts (me) and a pair of jeans and a pair of very pink snowboots (Karin). We made it home before the rain, even. In the evening I took the tram to The Hague to have dinner with my brother. Was really nice to just be with the two of us for a bit. Good food certainly helps too :) That tram was amazing - brand new, really fast, and just happens to go between my parents' and brother's homes in about 35 minutes. No complaints there.
Today (Tuesday) included a visit to "Omama", my mother's mother. She's 93 by now, and a little annoyed that she can't see or walk as well as she used to. I love her dearly. My mom went with us, so that she could occupy Karin some when it got to be too much for my grandma. Good plan. Although she did an amazing job, playing with the mosaic game *I* used to play with at grandma's when I was her age, when we were walking around later, K was getting overly bouncy and listening skills tumbled to virtually non-existent. Good thing it was time to go anyway.
Time for me to wrap up now too, and go out to dinner with my sorority-friends at the greek place we go to every year on Nov. 13 - founders day.
More later, no doubt.
