Tried posting more extensively earlier this week. Didn't finish writing up all details, so just bare minimum update for now, more later.
The Good: Halloween
The Bad: Didn't get to finish replacing the clapboards as we had planned, because we ran into...
The Ugly: Carpenter ants. They plus rot have destroyed the sill. You know, the thing the house rests on. Foundation. We should soon get a contractor estimate for fixing it. No, we're not futzing with the foundation ourselves. Needless to say, we're not happy with this, but very glad we found it NOW rather than later.

Things you do NOT want to find when replacing clapboards...

At least carpenter ants go where the wood is rotted, they're not like termites. But still, very unpleasant discovery.
