State of the House
May. 26th, 2006 01:01 pm(Our house that is. Post-raccoon)
We're almost dug out from all the visiting Murphys earlier this month.
Dishwasher arrived. New model, which is why we couldn't order the old model#. At least it came for the same price. It actually works, too. Now if only the hose attachment were a little longer, it would reach from dishwasher to faucet (like the old one did) without having to move the machine. Figures.
Steamvac parts arrived too, and 2 out of 3 were actually what we ordered. Luckily, the one wrong part is only used to coil up the wire, so doesn't inhibit the use of said machine. Actually had the time to clean* most of the downstairs yesterday, so yay!
Catflap boards still holding. Cats getting used to being let in and out manually.
All laundry done, folded, put away. Washer/dryer survived. Almost dead laundrybaskets didn't croak (yet).
Car still drivable, albeit still on the fritz. Temporary replacement car comes to us by unfortunate surprise (sister-in-law can't drive stick anymore, due to increased arthritis).
Scooter also still running, happily doing around 60 miles to the gallon. Noted that stepson now wants to be dropped off out of sight of school. And I quote, "it's a hippie scooter, and then my dad with his hippie hair... (horrified, disgusted look)"
New credit card cards are in. Old number canceled. Resulting cut-off by our email provider resolved. After at least 7 years of always paying on time they cut off our email access over *one* bounced charge. Without notifying us, without a warning. So much for loyalty there.....
Assault on garden-pests has begun. The aphids in all our roses have been sprayed. Twice. Little success with the mysterious microscopic pest - apparently NOT a fungus - in our nectarine tree. The recommended poison (Carbaryl) is hard to find. As said this morning at the hardware store, "your poisons aren't poisonous enough"
Almost. Almost dug out of the more recent disasters.
* Clean is a relative term. Even though I went over and over and over on some of the more trafficked areas, the rinse water never came up clear. Still quite black. Can we rip up the carpet yet? I want the hardwood flooooooors!
