Sitting at the table yesterday, trying to get at least some things accomplished in the midst of too many cascading disasters, J put his head down on his arms for a few minutes. Silly me thought he was just resting for a few seconds, but still awake. And since he didn't seem to mind our normal level of household noise, why not?
So, K and I got her little hair elastics, and put umpteen pony tails in his hair. He'd been avoiding getting his hair cut (a previously ovserved behavior) probably as much because of lack of time as because of lack of wanting to get it cut. And being able to get away with blaming it on the first reason... Sometime in the past weeks he'd speculated it was long enough to put it into a a tail. Now was as good a time as any to see if we could. Besides, the effect was quite funny.
We managed to put in quite a few elastics, and at K's insistence also a few hairpin-like thingies. And after 5 minutes or so of this, it must have sunk in that he probably was really asleep. I mean, he'd put up with some of this if awake, but by now he would have protested.
Hm.
Time to wake up, then :) I really, really should have grabbed a camera first. The look on his face when he saw himself in the mirror..... Priceless. Worth all the tickle-attack after.

K doesn't need any of those fancy hair-styling toys. She's got a live one all to herself.

My brother used to sit still and let me do this to him all the time when I was little. He's about 2.5 years older than me, so he should have been far too cool for that, but for some reason he let me. He's sit there and let me fill his hiar with all sorts of clips and scrunchies and goodness knows what else. At some point, my mother bought me this scary hiar styling toy that looked like a severed head on a pedastle. If I were a less hardy child, it would have scared the crap out of me. But instead I was just uniterested. It was pink and blond and girly. And Micheal...would make faces!

Come to think of it, Mike let me do *a lot* of things big brothers aren't expected to allow. I was a pretty lucky little kid.
