New kitten
Dec. 15th, 2004 03:15 pmWe have 2 cats in the house again! After Yoda didn't come home for weeks, we realized that he probably never will. Tijgetje and us humans living in her place were missing Yoda lots. So, we went looking for a new cat. Preferably a kitten, so (s)he could get used to living in our crazy family. And quite by surprise we quite suddenly "found" one on Sunday. Through craigslist, someone only 5 minutes away from us happened to have 3 kittens, only 9½ weeks old!! And who hoped to get them placed in a house with another cat (yup - present) and possible outside access at some point (got that too).
Off we went, to see if this could work. All 3 kittens were adorable. All males; playful, very social, pesty, looking healthy. 2 tabbies and a redhead. Both Alex and I immediately fell for the orange kitty; good thing he also turned out to be the most playful. Karin, in the meantime, was just having fun chasing all the cats around, kittens and others alike.
So, we are now the proud owners? parents? keepers? of a beautiful new kitten. We took him up to our bedroom, to keep Tijgetje away from him for now, and to make sure he doesn't escape. She must have had a sixth sense, because she homed in on the door with a one-track mind. And did NOT like what she saw on the other side. Growl, hiss, paw! The poor kitten looked confused, because all he's known were friendly other cats.
We'll give it a few days, weeks; they will probably adjust. I'm still hoping her maternal instincts will kick in at some point :)
His name-for-now is Weasley. Red-headed and chaotic and pesty. Not sure if that's a permanent name, though. Pictures to follow - as soon as we've actually taken some.
