Oh joy.

One of the first signs of spring:
1 large mouse*. Dead (quite so). In the dining room, under the table. With a candlestick. I suspect Weasley.

* or small rat. Then again, once it's already dead and on your floor, does it really matter?

+1 tail, presumably mouse. No, nothing else. Sigh.

Good stuff:
+ an amazing, wonderful, awesome concert with [livejournal.com profile] terbear2b. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] lovelyblackrose!
+ went for a nap at 10 or so (after a little someone woke me up at 6 f'in 30!), then proceeded to sleep through the day

Bad stuff:
+1 tiny cute mouse, alive*, a week or so ago
+1 mouse-fur-hairball with bones (note: discovered by D's bare toes), yesterday
+1 ex-bluejay, whole, today

*Note the full mouse-search in progress, or, how many people does it take to catch a mouse?:

Note: time of conversation is 10 minutes after J is supposed to have left for the airport for a conference. Sound familiar much?

johngnassi (10:19): Oh shit... it ran from under the couch into the kitchen. Cats going nuts.
johngnassi (10:19): I didn't get a good look at it because there were too many CATS in the way.
johngnassi (10:22): Couldn't see it or hear it over all the scrabbling, except dark fur.
johngnassi (10:23): Weasley guarding under back stairs...
johngnassi (10:23): Tijgetje still guarding the couch... (sigh)
johngnassi (10:31): Shit, something brown under couch too!
johngnassi (10:31): and lots of junk... you will have to take the whole thing apart - I don't have time.

... to be continued ...

Yet again

Weasley: +1 very dead rat. Again, bigger than the previous ones.
At some point, he must have raided the whole nest...

May. 1st, 2007 05:58 pm
It must be a sign that we need to do something to let only the legitimate critters in...

Saturday +1 small rat (according to Alex. We didn't see it, so were a little sceptical)
Monday +1 adolescent rat (at which point we most certainly did believe him.

I guess there is a nest somewhere near. Sigh.

+1 whole mouse, somewhat alive (but died a day later) and was very hard to catch! Did take a pic of it when we had it in the mouse-cage.
+1 half mouse, dead, on kitchen floor.

Tired. Way too late. Again. Was planning to go to bed at like 9ish. Had to gather all the documents for Karin's application for BEEP, the Brookline Early Education Program. Way too many forms and things to sign and look up. All done now. Somewhere inbetween I caught a mouse too. Or rather, removed it from Weasley who had caught one. Again. He could have just *meowed* for his foodbowl!

Tally update:
Weasley: +1 mouse, dead.
Tijgetje: many tie-wraps.
Been busy lately - both at work and at home. So much to do, so little time. There are many projects in progress, which is both a good and a bad thing. It's great they're happening, but so frustrating to have so many balls in the air at the same time, yet not enough time/resources to finish them.

We did finish the floors. And most of the room-swapping. Just this weekend we finished putting the desk together in our room, and moving 2 of the 3 computers onto it. And next to it. And under it. But functional! We even managed to do a final backup of the &%^)^!%!! broken win2000 machine, and format the sucker, and install a crisp and clean win2000 on it. If we can't get that going, or if it breaks, the machine is toast. But so far so good.
Alex' loft bed is still in progress - we have to lower it because of our very low ceilings. So a lot of measuring and glueing and drilling and such needs to happen. Some of which has. We're getting there. But that means that our room is a mess with his mattress in there and basically blocking progress there. At least Karin's room is almost done, with the computer moved out of there. Anyone need a small, rolling hutch? Or 2 relatively new and good monitors (CRTs)? We'll put them up on freecycle.

After some of those projects are done, we can continue on our room, get an actual bedframe for us, and a new futon. Once the piles of boxes in that corner are gone. Where did all those boxes come from??!! It's like they breed when I turn my back.
Anyway. A rough life update. More later.

Oh, and a tally update:
Weasley +1 mouse, dead. Don't know where in the world he found a live mouse in this arctic freeze!
mieke: Argh! I heard a bird. *INSIDE*. Right next to me. Loudly. And Weasley is sitting here, quietly.
mieke: Where's the bird?!? I can't find it...
john: Uh oh.

mieke: SHIT
mieke: It's a squirrel. Flattened itself behind the cabinet.

mieke: Doesn't want to go. And I have nothing that'll fit all the way behind the cabinet. Sigh.
mieke: Ideas?
john: The polehook.
mieke: Dust cleaning sprayer?
mieke: Polehook is too big to fit behind.

mieke: Am using handle of fuzzy duster-on-a-stick.
mieke: Cabinet is too heavy to be moved.

john: (Sigh) I'm going to check on patient... Just a minute.

mieke: OK. One TV antenna died in action, and 1 caught (and released) squirrel.

john : Good!!
mieke: Weasley caught. Was running after squirrel, outside.

tally - Weasley +1 squirrel, alive.

(welcome to our world...)

few things

At the in-laws at the NJ shore, after a surprisingly smooth train trip with just me, Karin, and a duffelbag on wheels. It's always wonderful to see how a beach full of sand and an ocean full of water can keep kids entertained for hours on end. Too bad there was a red flag today, so the water wasn't swimmable, and I really couldn't keep my eye off of K for more than a minute - or even half a minute.
Yay for naptime though. I'm slowly starting to catch up on sleep. More beach tomorrow. Maybe I'll even remember to bring a camera.

Oh, and yet another tally update:
Weasley: bird, dead, +1
What is this? blackmailing for more food?
+1 big yellow beetle
+1 mouse, almost dead.
